A welcome from our CEO Kelsey Waters

Welcome to Openlane - read about what problem we're solving, and how we're solving it

Welcome to Openlane!

I’m glad you’ve found us! It’s no surprise to me that you’re searching for tools to meet your security and compliance needs. There are few requirements more critical in your business than demonstrating maturity to your customers and partners. Enterprises have become even more stringent in their management of third parties, and adherence to certain compliance programs like SOC 2 has become a minimum bar to acquisition of these enterprises as customers. Whether you’re a leader looking to build your first compliance program, an operator looking for a better solution to collect evidence, a security professional looking for better tools to manage controls, or someone interested in our open-source project, we are thrilled to have you.

Building compliance programs from the ground up is a challenge every organization faces. Our team has experience doing just that for hardware, software, service provider, and manufacturing businesses of many sizes and across both the public and private sectors.

We've poured that experience into Openlane and have been hard at work refining it into an opinionated and streamlined toolset that’s not only configurable but is extensible with well documented API’s and clients. Best of all: it’s open source. The best product builders know what they don’t know, and by making our platform and toolchains available free to use to the public, we know we will reap the benefits of community experience and use cases we’d not yet dreamed up.

What problem are we solving?

Every business has foundational requirements to provide security and availability.

For companies in the software industry today, having a compliance program and obtaining a SOC2 is the minimum bar; we know you want to display that badge proudly on your website and sell your product to more customers in different markets.  More importantly, you want your software and systems to be secured.

The vast majority of teams simply don’t have the time, experience, or access to best practices to know what a good compliance program looks like and conjure it from thin air. Many companies attempt to solve this problem by buying tools that only solve part of the equation, leaving them ill-informed about their own controls and policies and using security theater that doesn’t address real risks and threats to their business. Companies with resources to hire teams of experienced professionals implement strong security and compliance programs, but still pay the opportunity costs of this approach.

How are we solving it?

We are building open-source tools and technologies for the people working at the core of modern businesses. We help businesses make more money, capture new markets, reduce operating costs, and improve the quality of life of those humans at the heart of the business.

We are passionate about democratizing tooling and knowledge in the security and compliance space, and we’re targeting our initial feature sets toward compliance programs, primarily because they are so burdensome for operations and engineering teams. We also know that the same tools which are foundational in supporting compliance programs are a stepping stone to enable:

  • improvements to availability and reliability of infrastructure and services
  • better communication between sales & support and the engineering & operations teams
  • acceleration of digital business
